Why settings vary
Conversion settings depend on both the source and destination formats. An image conversion may expose dimensions and quality, an audio conversion may expose bitrate, and a document conversion may offer page selection. When an option does not apply, FilesMonkey hides it and uses a compatibility-focused preset.
Image settings
Good to know
- Higher quality usually creates a larger file.
- Preserve the aspect ratio when changing width or height to avoid distortion.
- Choose PNG for transparency; choose JPG or WebP when a smaller photographic image is more important.
Audio and video settings
Good to know
- A higher bitrate can improve quality but increases file size.
- Do not upscale low-resolution video unless a larger frame is specifically required.
- Use MP4 with broadly supported codecs when playback compatibility matters.
- Extracting audio from video removes the visual track and cannot be reversed without the original.
Document and archive settings
Good to know
- Select only the pages you need when page selection is available.
- Compression can reduce size but may lower embedded image quality.
- Creating a ZIP packages the source; it does not transcode the media inside it.
If no settings appear
Continue with the default preset. It is selected for broad compatibility with the chosen output. If the result does not meet your needs, return to the converter, choose a different destination format, or use the closest available quality option.
